Quick post here – SPOILERS ABOUND for A STAR IS BORN (2018).
I just wanted to discuss one visual element DP Matthew Libatique and director Bradley Cooper incorporate that I found brilliant.
Throughout the film, Jack’s performances are depicted through the visual language of backlit stage lights and robust lens flares.

When (SPOILERS)….

Jack is in the garage preparing to hang himself, the work lights behind him in the garage flare into the lens, mirroring the aesthetic of his on-stage performances.
It’s a beautiful callback which draws parallels; the exact nature of those parallels is up to the viewer to the interpret (his “final performance” perhaps? His final act that he can do for his fans?).
